Children Photography at my Studio

Photographing children is fun for me.  How can it not be a great time!  Children are uninhibited and will quickly let you know what they do and don't like.  The three kids that showed up at  my studio, LJ Franklin Photography in New Richmond, Ohio arrived ready for their close ups.  All being 6 years old and under I knew their attention span would not last long.  Snacks and "run time" was allowed.

Just down the road was a place with tall grass and I asked the mother of the kids if it would be okay to go there to try some photographs of the kids running.  The two kids loved it and one of the images from that activity is attached below. 

The kids were great and their mom was so amenable to my suggested photographic locations.  Below are photographs of the children in a studio and in a few outdoor settings.  Too cute.

  

Memorial Photos

A couple of days ago a neighbor asked if I would scan some family photographs of her son for his upcoming funeral. He died in a one car accident. We spent three hours at my computer scanning old images for the slide presentation she had planned for the memorial. I did not know her son, but I learned so much about him in those three hours. He was loved and cherished.

Scott M

Scott is my cousin's feisty 24 year old son born with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome. It is uncommon, but if you would like to learn more, please visit http://www.cdlsusa.org/ .  He is very inquisitive, likes his fruits and veggie, and will let you know if he is happy.

Lighting Techniques

Winter is a great time to meet with other photographers and to learn new tricks and techniques. Recently, a group gathered to work on portrait lighting. We started with the basics - one light and then worked up to colored filters, snoots, and dramatic lighting. It was fun and our model was fantastic. Below are just a few samples of what we focused on.

One light with a black background. The model is facing the light at a 2/3rd angle. Delightful.

Still using one light the model was asked to look straight ahead to give a more dramatic image.

Here a red gel was placed on a light pointed towards the back of the head (hair light) and a "snoot" on another light was used to focus light on the face. Very mysterious.

This is an example of the photo above, but the "snoot" light was narrowed and focused on just the eyes -- Casablanca style.

Family Portrait

A few days ago I photographed the Grimes family at their Cincinnati, Ohio home. We captured many great photos -- as you can see below.

 

 

 

Daggett Family

Family Portraits August 2010

Earlier this summer the Daggett family asked for a family portrait and we decided to photograph around their home. They had some great landscaping which made for wonderful pictures of a very photogenic family.

Sunday a group of like-minded Cincinnati area photographers gathered to share fashion photography tips and techniques on photographying "Big Beautiful Women". There were professional and amature photographers, plus a couple of dancers who shared their posing knowledge.  What we learned were techniques that can be used when photographing anyone during a portrait or wedding photography session.
